The brand born from Hemingway’s hat: The Oysterman

After the cafés where Ernest Hemingway hung out, the notebooks he used and many other belongings, now the cap he used on the boat has become an object of desire for sailors.

As everything he wrote and did while he was alive was top mentioned, Ernest Hemingway's belongings are also a source of interest now. There are people racing to find one of the planes he shot down in Africa. The notebooks in which he writes his books have already become a brand. The trench coat he wore is offered by the world's most important clothing brands under his name. The places he visited became tourist centers. One of the bars in Havana is using his name with a genius marketing sign. The sign says: Hemingway would never come to us.

Hemingway's interest in the sea, fishing and boats is also well known. In his book "The Old Man and the Sailor", which is considered his best work by most critics, he explains the niceties of fishing so well that it is possible to use this book as a textbook. But now our topic is not his skills as a writer and fisherman, but the cap he wore during these hobbies.

The cap worn aboard by Hemingway, who turned everything he touched into gold, has also become very popular with the brand "The Oysterman". It is known that Hemingway wore the cap, which was produced by a company called Quaker Marine at that time, while fishing and duck hunting. When the company closed during the Great Depression, production of the cap stopped. Until Joe Kadison, the veteran Coast Guard Officer, thought of reproducing the cap, inspired by a photograph of Hemingway in Life magazine.

Today, "The Oysterman" is available in red, white, khaki, suede, cotton, in all types, and moreover, they are all handmade. When you ask company officials, they can't comment on whether the cap is to make you as good a writer or sailor as Hemingway. But they definitely guarantee that it is water-resistant and that you will not get a sunstroke.
