Pirate Miu's Logbook

Cats can become pirates too. An example of it can be found in Antalya marina. Shall we have a closer look at Miu, who retired from piracy at a young age and settled down in the marina?

Would you believe that the universe offers you gifts? The tiny cat that was unexpectedly placed in my lap for good luck was my gift. That cat is Miu, who, when she was only a month old, stowed away on a boat from Kaş Marina to Antalya Marina on an October morning and crossed all those sea miles in salty water without food or water. Maybe it's the feline sense of curiosity, maybe it's the advantages of our chain campaign, who knows! But if you ask me, it is because of her interest in piracy.

Miu's sea journey ends when the boat docks at Antalya Marina. Upon hearing noises coming from the engine room, the crew notifies our marina office and asks for support to get this little girl, who is just a handful, out of the boat. It becomes the job of a colleague from our front office team and our intern, who at that time was doing a summer internship. Together, with great struggle, they come to the office with the most beautiful kitten in the world in their hands. And then straight to the vet.

Miu, named after the way she meows, is a tabby, known for their intelligence and ability to survive in harsh conditions. Miu was also exposed to loud engine noise during her voyage, but this noise did not cause any damage to her ears.

When they brought Miu to me for adoption, I thought I had never seen such a beautiful cat in my life. When I first saw her big green eyes and loving gaze, I felt as if she had chosen me and instead of I choosing her. She was looking into my eyes with an innocent expression as if to say, "don't let me back on the street". Neither she nor we could have imagined that 16 months would pass since that day and that we would have such a strong bond between us.

Miu is a half-melancholic, half-hunting cat whose lightning-fast movements make us feel like we are hallucinating. She loves to drink from the tap, play with the water, follow the passers-by and observe what is going on around her. She takes on the flying birds in the mornings.

Miu lives life at the top, she is a highflyer. She never comes down from the cabinets. Her archenemy is flies, of course. She probably owes her fitness to chasing flies.

Miu is by nature a supervisor, if she sees someone doing something, she goes and stands over them, inspects them. She is frugal too, for example she hides coins under the carpet. She loves tidiness, and if there is an object on the coffee table that is different from the usual ones, she doesn't hesitate to paw it down. Then she turns around and watches with pleasure as the object falls to the ground.

Miu talks to us, responds to what we say in her own way. She knows when you are talking about her, when you want to ask her or tell her something, because she has the right to answer. She responds with her gaze. Sometimes she sulks, she doesn't even look at us, she ignores us even if we call her name many times.

There is no end to talking about Miu. She loves solitude, and she disappears for hours, mostly to sleep. She doesn't like guests because she wants all the attention. She doesn't like to be petted, but she makes sure to give you a morning kiss.

Although she is now a big beautiful girl, one thing has not changed since the first time we saw her: her curious gaze and our unconditional love for her.
