The 7th Classic Boats Meeting was organized by Koç University Maritime Forum (KÜDENFOR) at Setur Marinas Kalamış & Fenerbahçe.
The seventh edition of the Classic Boats Meeting, eagerly anticipated by sea and boat enthusiasts every year, was held at Setur Marinas Kalamış & Fenerbahçe on Sunday, September 8, with the participation of prominent figures from the maritime community.
Featuring 20 unique classic sailboats, there were in depth presentations by prominent speakers at the event. After the opening speeches by KÜDENFOR Director Admiral Cem Gürdeniz and RMK Museum General Manager Mine Sofuoğlu; Işık Aylan, Can Pulak, Sait Keresteci, Sedat Zincirkıran and Ceyhun Kıran shared their experiences.
About the boats exhibited at the event... "Vilia", a spanker cruiser built in 1910 for H. L. Garrett, Commodore of the Royal North of Ireland Yacht Club, for day trips and small boat races on Lake Belfast, "Neptune 2", an offshore sailboat with a ketch coat of arms, whose plans were drawn by American designer Thomas C. Gillmer in the first half of the 1960s, "Levent" sailboat built in 1904 at the German Abeking & Rasmussen Shipyard, "Yosun", built by Eralp Akkoyunlu from 1976 to 1984 and sailed around the world, "Melmoth 2", built in 1967 at the Netherlands/Vripack Shipyard, and "RA-1", a 1935 model sloop rigged British designed copper riveted sailboat built by Harun Ülman, particularly attracted attention. Koç University, Nesime, Bora VII, Damla, Kuzey Yıldızı, 12 Kadem Dingi, Shrimp, Ülküm, Nimet-u Hüda, Stern and Shangri-La attracted the eyes and won the hearts of the guests with their unique stories and unique features.
The highlight of the meeting was the addition of Necati Zincirkıran's classic sailboat "Sultan" of the Seas, built in 1971 at Ahmet Usta's shipyard in Karadeniz Ereğlisi, to the Rahmi M. Koç Museum Maritime Collection with a ceremony. The 13.85-meter "Sultan", whose hull is made of laminated pine and epoxy and deck is made of teak, is also of great significance as the last Istanbul cruiser designed by Harun Ülman.
Classic boats are not only a classical pleasure for the sea and boat enthusiasts, they remain indispensable with the light they shine on history and maritime culture.
