Ayvalık’s Miraculous Drinks

Ayvalık, the meeting point of cultures, containing all the riches of nature, renews our soul and body with its miraculous beverages as much as it does with its air.

Ayvalık contains so many riches that it is sometimes possible for you to come across extraordinary pleasures which are sometimes overlooked by even the strictest regulars. The miraculous drinks menu of the town is one them. Let's see what is on the menu:

Hibiscus straight out of a dream
Reflecting the magic of its name with its taste, “hibiscus” sounds like a word out of the movies. Also known as marsh mallow or musk rose in Turkey, hibiscus is some kind of a youth elixir, a treasure of vitamin C with a mildly sour flavor. When consumed in abundance, it is a dream that evokes the effect of alcohol.

Tamarind: From Ottoman cuisine to Ayvalık
Advertising the existence of every culture, Ayvalık opens its doors with "tamarind" from the Ottoman cuisine. Tamarind, which is actually a legume, is used in our lands as sherbet the most. It gives a feeling of vitality, eases the stomach, and becomes a delicious friend to us, warming the hearts.

Travel through time with basil
The season of summer welcomes us with the refreshing basil plant, with a glass of pink colored basil sherbet that brings you alive. This plant becomes a guest to our tables only between the months of May and October, it brings the tranquility of Ayvalık to you with its fresh taste and calming effect.

Marjoram: A source of health
As a warm solution to the cold weather, marjoram takes you to other dimensions with its unique smell. You can soften its piquant taste with a spoonful of honey and open your breath with a sip from it.

And two classics: Black mulberry sherbet and verjıice
In Ayvalık where the endeavors are endless, the companion for when discovering the streets that are redolent of history, also known as Black Mulberry Sherbet, is always loved for reminding the child in us as it leaves permanent traces the moment it is poured. What makes it indispensable is the charm of these dominant traces. When your inner lip is injured, Black Mulberry Sherbet rejuvenates it with its healing power, and does not feel satisfied without leaving its red color on the edge of your lip.

Verjuice, another classic of Ayvalık, stands out with its antioxidant feature.  While it is used as a sweetener in the French cuisine, it is mostly drunk plain in Ayvalık, to sweeten the soul.

How about adding all these flavors to your bag and experiencing them all at once when your stopping point becomes Ayvalık one day?
