After two years with the pandemic, a high number of yachtsmen showed up again in the International Marmaris Race Week this year and experienced the Marmaris Bay with that old sense of unlimited freedom for five days.

123 boats and about 1200 yachtsmen from 25 countries, including Turkey, Netherlands, Russia, Estonia, Italy, England, Greece and the United States of America, have participated in the races organized by Marmaris International Yacht Club (MIYC) and sponsored by Setur Marinas and Netsel Marmaris Marina.

The races were held in two main groups, including six classifications in the IRC group and three classifications in the Charter group. The teams left the marina one by one and went out to the bay towards the area where they would compete. The racers tried to complete the course and come in first by sailing around the buoys in the open sea race, which was organized both in and out of the bay since the wind conditions were suitable for the race. The racers who ranked in nine classifications received their awards at the ceremonies held in the Netsel Marmaris Marina event area. The yachtsmen who were successful in two individual yacht races, organized as Netsel Marina Day and Setur Marinas Day, were presented with their trophies during the ceremony. The closing of the week was made on the last day with a big party organized in the event area.

Marmaris International Yacht Club (MIYC) President Zafer Öznur shared his happiness for having completed the race week with such a high number of participants once again and
said, “Weather reports predicted that the wind would be a little low for the race, but we managed to complete our races as planned. We had a boating accident on day four, which upset us, of course, but we witnessed very colorful images throughout the race". Netsel Marmaris Marina, Marina Manager Erkan Özatağ summarized his views on the race week as follows: “We are very happy to see that a race in which only 10-15 boats participated in its early years has become a yacht race with the highest number of participation in the Eastern Mediterranean today. As Netsel Marina, we are proud to be the main sponsor of the races for 33 years and to host thousands of yachtsmen and boats that have come to Marmaris for the races to date."

It seems that the International Marmaris Race Week will host even greater pride next year, combined with the celebrations of the 100th anniversary of the Republic.
